Luckenbach is long dozen miles from either Fredericksburg, Texas in southeastern Gillespie County, part of the Texas Hill Country. It consists of tenner estate (40,000 m²) between South Grape Creek (the confluent of the Pedernales River) and Snail Creek, upright south of U.S. Highway 290 on both sides of Ranch Road 1376.

Its oldest building occurs as combination general store and saloon opened in 1849 by Minna Engel, whose father was an itinerant preacher from either Germany. A community, forename Grape Creek, was late known as fallowing Minna's married man, Carl Albert Luckenbach. Luckenbach was 1st established as a community general store & was one of a pack that never broke a pacification using the Comanche Indians, with whom it bartered & traded.

Its people increased to the high of 492 within 1904, but per 1960s, Luckenbach was almost the ghost town. An ad in the paper offering "town — pop. 3 — for sale" led Hondo Crouch, rancher and Texas folklorist, to purchase Luckenbach for $30,000 around 1970, in partnership by owning Kathy Morgan & Guich Koock. When modern-contemporary Luckenbach is a share of Fredericksburg, Hondo utilized a town's rights when a municipality to govern a dance palace as he saw healthy.

Country music
Luckenbach's association sustaining country music began in the summer of 1973, when Jerry Jeff Walker, backed by the Lost Gonzo Band, recorded a survive album there known as Viva Terlingua. That album became an outlaw country classic.

4 years late (& a year fallowing Crouch's demise), Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson memorialized Luckenbach with a song "Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love)."

Notable concert appearances in the town include Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Pat Green, Robert Earl Keen, and Lyle Lovett. A little community is however an active house to country and western as of 2004.
